"THE RATINGS MYTH" Did you know that third party web site ratings are based on number of reviews only, and NOT the content. ? Therefore, all a B and B has to do is encourage guests to write reviews (or write a few themselves) and the property will get a high desirability rating regardless of what the guest says ! We have one glowing review which puts us in last place, simply because it's the only review on a third party review site. .It's a numbers game.. It's a shame that unsuspecting travellers place stock in that kind of meaningless "rating system" as opposed to reading true reviews on the property's own web site. " Travel industry media Continue to document the attempt by third party review sites to gain "popularity" or "Credibility" by showing a large number of often unedited reviews, sometimes by folks who have never stayed at the property ! Could that be irresistible for any "perpetually disgruntled" travellers out there ? NOW YOU'VE READ OUR GUEST REVIEWS. Even with them, as of 11/09, Trip Advisor "ranked" Castleview 21 out of 22 Camden B and B's in "popularity" based on a single very positive review as opposed to many on THEIR "review" site--not ours ! Does that mean they determine "popularity" by how many times we help them make money by telling our guests to use their review site instead of ours ? Certainly they will appear to be more "popular" with lots of reviews, but we see no reason to play third party number counting software games to make them appear "popular" while replacing the truth in our own wonderful guest reviews.
